Blue Devils Honored with ACC Top Six for Service Awards

DURHAM – Five Duke student-athletes and one Blue Devil team have been honored by the ACC with the league's Top Six for Service Award. The accolade is presented annually to six student-athletes from each conference institution who demonstrate outstanding dedication to community service and outreach programs.

The Duke men's soccer team along with Anna Callahan (women's lacrosse) Piper Hampsch (field hockey), Anthony Hinton (football), Alexis Joseph (women's lacrosse) and Morgan Linsley (rowing) were honored.

The men's soccer program adopted Jackson Wall five years ago through Team Impact. They have continued their close relationship with Jackson after his time with Team Impact ended. This year, Jackson "officially" became a Blue Devil when they held a "signing day" ceremony, and presented him with a jersey and "letter of commitment". In addition, the team has done in-person community engagement with the Neal School in Durham.

As a leader and advocate for mental health, Callahan serves as Morgan's Message president and is very active in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) for both students and staff. In addition, she is an active volunteer with Boys Hope and Girls Hope in the Greater Baltimore area, and also coaches at clinics for Rival Lacrosse and offers free volunteer coaching and private lessons to young athletes in the Greater Baltimore area.

Hampsch was a mentor with Strong Girls United FAM's 1:1 mentoring program that matches collegiate and professional female athletes with a K-8th grade girl for the year for virtual movement, mental skills, and mentorship. She also coordinated her team's effort to create toiletry kits for the Open Table Ministry in Durham, and then brought those kits with her while volunteering at that ministry.

Hinton has been active in reading at local elementary schools. He also participated in the Rubenstein-Bing Student-Athlete Civic Engagement (ACE) Program in 2021 and is currently spearheading the effort for the football team to adopt a Team Impact child.

As United Black Athletes (UBA) co-president, Joseph organized numerous community service opportunities, activism and leadership initiatives. One partnership she helped coordinate is with GrowthNC. In addition, she has helped with creating and offering free lacrosse clinics and serves as a coach and mentor for Eyekonz.

Linsley has volunteered throughout the entire year at the Durham Animal Protection Society. While her main job was walking the dogs, she also worked on training and socializing them. The Durham Animal Protection Society also hosted many adoption events where Linsley worked as a dog handler.
