Providence College Men's Lacrosse Partners With Team Impact

The Friars officially welcomed their new teammate Nolan to the program on Nov. 30.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Head Coach Chris Gabrielli has announced the signing of Nolan as the newest member of the Friars men's lacrosse team. Nolan comes to Providence through a partnership with Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious illnesses and disabilities through the power of a team.

"We are thrilled to officially welcome Nolan to the Providence College lacrosse family, Gabrielli said. "Our program is dedicated to lending a supportive hand in our community whenever possible, especially when it comes to kids in need in our area. Team IMPACT has created another terrific opportunity for our team to get involved. We look forward to getting to know Nolan and his family, and we're excited to have Nolan on our sidelines very soon!"

Nolan was officially introduced at a press conference on Tuesday, November 30, at Schneider Arena, during which he signed his official letter of intent. Nolan's family was in attendance, along with his new teammates and members of the Providence athletics department. Now an official member of the Friars men's lacrosse team, Nolan will attend practices, games and team functions.

The Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation supported Team IMPACT with a $100,000 grant in 2019 to increase outreach efforts across the country, allowing matches like Nolan's to take place.

"The mission of the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation is to bring joy to kids battling hunger or illness," said April McGonnigal, Director of the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation. "Team IMPACT's work exemplifies bringing joy and we are proud to support Team IMPACT and their partnership with Providence College. Congratulations to Nolan for his exciting new match!"

"Team IMPACT is excited to see Nolan join the Friar family," said Ali Peters, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Team IMPACT. "We are thankful to the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation for making this day possible and for their continuing support of Team IMPACT."

Nolan and his teammates enjoyed sweet treats provided by the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation during the signing day celebration.

About Team IMPACT
Team IMPACT is the only U.S. nonprofit that tackles the emotional trauma and social isolation experienced by children facing serious illnesses and disabilites by matching them with a college athletic team. Our two-year therapeutic program complements a child's medical treatments, allowing the child to develop relationships and skills that help them complete the full circle of healing.

Through participation in Team IMPACT's clinically informed program, children experience a true sense of belonging, resulting in increased empowerment, normalization, health promotion, and resilience. Families feel connected and supported as their child achieves individualized goals, while experiencing the joy of team camaraderie and inclusion; and student-athletes gain perspective and inspiration, as well as lessons in adversity and resilience.

Founded in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 2,300 children with 700+ colleges and universities in 49 states, impacting more than 65,000 student-athletes. Team IMPACT has more than 1,200 teams across the country waiting to be matched with children, ages 5-16, who have been diagnosed with a serious illness or disability and could benefit from becoming a member of the team.
